Greece Unveils Official AI Travel Platform With Digital History Archive

Greece unveiled the redesigned VisitGreece on Monday, presenting a new official digital portal that aims to promote the country’s tourism identity abroad and improve how travelers discover, plan, and experience Greece.
The updated portal forms part of the broader digital transformation of the Greek National Tourism Organization, with funding from the Recovery and Resilience Facility.
Minister of Tourism Olga Kefalogianni described the project as a major step in modernizing Greece’s tourism communication strategy. She said the country’s natural beauty, cultural heritage, and wide range of travel experiences now gain a more advanced and interactive digital presence.
Greece builds a new digital ecosystem through the VisitGreece portal
The project extends well beyond the redesign of a tourism website. According to the Tourism Ministry, it creates a broader digital ecosystem that connects destination information, culture, technology, archival material, and visitor services.
The initiative rests on three main pillars: the Digital Tourism Map, the Digital Repository and Interactive Tourism Museum, and the redesigned VisitGreece website and mobile app.
The Digital Tourism Map organizes and presents Greece’s tourism assets in a more comprehensive way. It brings together natural, cultural, and tourism-related resources from across the country, giving national and local authorities a stronger tool for destination planning, promotion, and sustainable development.
The map will support the work of the Tourism Ministry, the Greek National Tourism Organization, regional authorities, and municipalities. It will also help them showcase local destinations more effectively and design tourism policies based on more complete data.
Greek tourism history becomes digitally accessible
The second pillar of the project focuses on the Digital Repository and Interactive Tourism Museum.
The Greek National Tourism Organization has organized, digitized, and documented a large volume of historical, visual, and audiovisual material. This work preserves an important part of the history of Greek tourism and makes it accessible to citizens, researchers, and future generations.
The repository also highlights how Greece’s international tourism image has evolved over time, while offering a valuable cultural resource for anyone interested in the development of the country’s tourism sector.
VisitGreece app to launch on July 1
The third pillar centers on the full redesign of VisitGreece and the launch of a unified digital experience through the new website and the VisitGreece app.
Starting July 1, the official tourism portal and the new app will accompany travelers at every stage of their journey. The platform will help users find inspiration, plan routes, discover experiences, explore destinations while in Greece, and maintain a connection with the country after returning home.
To support the new platform, the project team created fresh digital content, including curated texts, photography, and high-quality audiovisual material.
AI tools to personalize the travel experience
Artificial intelligence stands out as one of the most important features of the new VisitGreece platform. Visitors will be able to interact with digital assistants, receive personalized recommendations, organize their trips, and access information through a more natural and conversational experience.
Kefalogianni said artificial intelligence is becoming a powerful force in the global travel industry. She noted that it offers new ways to understand visitors’ needs and design more effective tourism policies and promotional actions.
The new app will also support natural conversation, multilingual communication, and more personalized visitor assistance.
